<div style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #274e13; font-family: Times, 'Times New Roman', serif;">Nothin' says summer like juicy watermelon and lemonade!! A friend sent us this picture of Watermelon Cake Pops, done by <em>Natalie's Cake Pops in Littleton, Colorado</em>! Not our idea, but we wish it was!! There are so many clever, creative people out there! Speaking of summer, Natalie and I are both staying busy, enjoying watching our little girls learn to swim, taking advantage of the beautiful San Diego weather, and coming up with some new Cake Pop flavors and seasonal ideas! Also, keep an eye out for our new website <a href="http://www.cakesthatgopop.com/">http://www.cakesthatgopop.com</a>! It should be live, and up and running very soon! </span></div>Nic + Nathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05521095865570957027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3176135765949064810.post-67513062524413326072011-06-07T20:55:00.000-07:002011-06-07T20:59:00.805-07:00Pops in Peru<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Last month my husband and I visited Peru and hiked the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu. During the four day excursion I went through highs and lows. The highs were obvious, being up high in the Andes taking in all its beauty. The lows were the lack of western toilets and my unfulfilled cravings for comfort food. I was bound and determined to find pops somewhere Peru. Low and behold I found them on our last day in Lima. We went into the Starbucks and the chalk board read the following... </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Udj3_lwaIEU/Te7tOKQvQpI/AAAAAAAAADw/k4EIbLG6YdU/s1600/DSC_0926.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Udj3_lwaIEU/Te7tOKQvQpI/AAAAAAAAADw/k4EIbLG6YdU/s400/DSC_0926.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fyp-a1yVHzI/Te7tnnJkngI/AAAAAAAAAD8/UUD_TlJNHWg/s1600/DSC_0937.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="265" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Fyp-a1yVHzI/Te7tnnJkngI/AAAAAAAAAD8/UUD_TlJNHWg/s400/DSC_0937.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">The pops were double the size but lacked flavor and had a very different texture. I was happy to get back home to my daughter and a delicious Cake That Goes Pop</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Cheers,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">Natalie</div>Nic + Nathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05521095865570957027noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3176135765949064810.post-43441273374577525752011-05-18T22:05:00.000-07:002011-05-19T13:39:41.984-07:00The Cake Pop Process...<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><strong><em><span style="color: black; font-size: large;">Q&A: "What is a Cake Pop?"</span></em></strong> </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is a question we've been answering a lot lately! Many of our friends have had these yummy little treats, but few people know what goes into the process that make them so tasty! Here's how we do it! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: inherit;"> 1. First, we start out with our delicious homemade cakes, made from scratch with the best quality ingredients. Yep, flour, sugar, eggs, and all that good stuff! </span><em><span style="font-family: inherit;"><b>No mixes allowed here!</b></span></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><em><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><em><span style="font-family: inherit;"></span></em><em><span style="font-family: inherit;"> <span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-style: normal;">2. Next, we gently crumble the cake into a fine texture. (You can use your hands or a food processor for this part!)</span></span></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><em><span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
</span></em></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uPswAO3Fld0/Tb8dkumua1I/AAAAAAAAAB8/0UTCUl45TIQ/s1600/pbm_2011_04_14_00002.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-uPswAO3Fld0/Tb8dkumua1I/AAAAAAAAAB8/0UTCUl45TIQ/s640/pbm_2011_04_14_00002.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">3. Then we mix the cake with homemade creamy frosting. </div><div style="text-align: center;"><i><br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rqF_K5rGN0k/Tb8dz0yBgCI/AAAAAAAAACA/17JZbCjUa9I/s1600/pbm_2011_04_14_00003.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-rqF_K5rGN0k/Tb8dz0yBgCI/AAAAAAAAACA/17JZbCjUa9I/s640/pbm_2011_04_14_00003.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UqhPasEDKpM/Tb8eHSzrkwI/AAAAAAAAACE/iNTJ22UKCAE/s1600/pbm_2011_04_14_00005.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-UqhPasEDKpM/Tb8eHSzrkwI/AAAAAAAAACE/iNTJ22UKCAE/s640/pbm_2011_04_14_00005.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
4. Then, the mixture is rolled into balls. (We like to use a cookie scoop for uniformity.)<br />
<br />
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2r8ij6lyaqs/Tb8et0o2A8I/AAAAAAAAACQ/7M9Ogr8hbe0/s1600/pbm_2011_04_14_00011.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-2r8ij6lyaqs/Tb8et0o2A8I/AAAAAAAAACQ/7M9Ogr8hbe0/s640/pbm_2011_04_14_00011.jpg" style="cursor: move;" width="426" /></a><br />
<br />
5. We gently roll the balls to keep a nice texture.<br />
<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-okSZF9QxWVY/Tb8eTQ0XuHI/AAAAAAAAACI/9bn0ojX0pNg/s1600/pbm_2011_04_14_00007.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-okSZF9QxWVY/Tb8eTQ0XuHI/AAAAAAAAACI/9bn0ojX0pNg/s640/pbm_2011_04_14_00007.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
<br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XLBDOEtwypE/Tb8e8GytNPI/AAAAAAAAACU/CQIta67gaL8/s1600/pbm_2011_04_14_00013.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-XLBDOEtwypE/Tb8e8GytNPI/AAAAAAAAACU/CQIta67gaL8/s640/pbm_2011_04_14_00013.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
<br />
6. Next, a lollipop stick is inserted into the ball of cake, and dipped in Guittard Chocolate.<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gZqfRXlES54/TdSEdwQrb_I/AAAAAAAAAC8/bMezbRpP-kE/s1600/pbm_2011_04_14_00023.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-gZqfRXlES54/TdSEdwQrb_I/AAAAAAAAAC8/bMezbRpP-kE/s640/pbm_2011_04_14_00023.jpg" width="426" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">7. Finally, the Cake Pops are decorated. We use various chocolate coating, sprinkles, sugars, and other decorations to make our Cake Pops look perfect!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

While taking tips from Bakerella, (there's no end to what that gal can do), we enjoyed being inspired by such an imaginative, playful theme!!! Elmo was filled with our yummy Chocolate Truffle pop, while the other two Pops were Red Velveteen & Lemon Kiss! To our delight, they were a huge hit, especially with the "under 2" crowd!! Happy Birthday sweet Willa!! <br />

She is my<strong><span style="background-color: white; color: magenta;"> love</span></strong>...well one of my loves! Of course there's my husband, my dog, my morning coffee, and Cake Pops!! She is quickly learning the art of baking and loving what you bake! She is such a sweet girl, and she's always wanting to help Mommy make pops! One glimpse of them and she's joyfully exclaiming "Pops Mommy, I want Pops!" Maybe I've created a monster? Nonetheless, she evidently has her mothers (and her grandmothers) sweet tooth! I try to limit her sugar, like any mother would, but it's getting harder with all these fabulous treats around! Maybe I'll experiment with some <em>Zucchini</em> or <em>Banana bread</em> pops? Hmmm, could be good!! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">~Cheers, Nicole</div>Nic + Nathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05521095865570957027noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3176135765949064810.post-70886382484023794412011-04-12T10:16:00.000-07:002011-04-12T10:16:08.371-07:00Baby Crazy!<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Whew! Last week was nuts. We had our first "real" event and made three dozen pops for a baby boy shower. Nicole and I spent the majority of our days in the kitchen, rolling, melting and drizzling away. The women hosting the shower wanted to use baby blue and although I'm not a big fan of pastels, I must say the color looked great. Even better when we added the pops to the pots with bright green moss. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a4CLrUHZIZQ/TaSCdjMPUWI/AAAAAAAAAA0/EJXMrc8Kx6w/s1600/DSC_0432.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-a4CLrUHZIZQ/TaSCdjMPUWI/AAAAAAAAAA0/EJXMrc8Kx6w/s640/DSC_0432.jpg" width="424" /></a></div><div style="text-align: right;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_FpRJ7C62n0/TZ-DjKEKedI/AAAAAAAAAAs/OiiMTqTkxmM/s1600/DSC_0516.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="424" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_FpRJ7C62n0/TZ-DjKEKedI/AAAAAAAAAAs/OiiMTqTkxmM/s640/DSC_0516.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><br />
</td></tr>
</tbody></table>THEN, along with friends we hosted a "sip and see" for our friend Rian who just had baby girl Sutton Wren. The egg pops in nests and details came together fabulously. It was such a great way to get everyone together and celebrate! I especially LOVE the bright color scheme we came up with. Check it out! ~Natalie<br />

Who cares what the question is!Tonight as part of our R&D (research & developement) I am making <span style="color: #783f04;"><strong><em>chocolate cake</em></strong></span>. Because Natalie and I decided from the get go, that we would always use homemade cakes and frostings, I am on a quest to find the perfect chocolate cake recipe! The kind that you'd want to eat with a big glass of cold milk Several cook books, calls to Mom, and Google searches later and I've narrowed it down to 3 recipes! Tonight's recipe is a light coco color, creamy and not too dark like some chocolate cakes can be! I've added mini chocolate morsels for fun! Wish me luck!Nic + Nathttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05521095865570957027noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3176135765949064810.post-58140748238802448012011-04-07T21:29:00.000-07:002011-04-08T12:29:33.492-07:00Oh My Gosh...We're live!!Just a few short months ago, Natalie and I were talking about the "what ifs" of starting our own business! We joked about it, brainstormed about it, and now WE'RE DOING IT!! <br />
